ABOUT SKYELEA
SkyeLea believes her work can be described as authentic, dynamic, and emotional.
SkyeLea is a singer-songwriter, dancer, instrumentalist, and multidisciplinary creative based in Northern Michigan. Her work lives at the intersection of music, movement, and storytelling, shaped by formal training, strong community roots, and a commitment to honest, expressive artistry.
As a performer, SkyeLea appears both as a solo artist and with several ensembles across Michigan and beyond. Her jazz-influenced project, The SkyeLea Trio, featuring Detroit drummer Tariq Gardner and saxophonist Houston Patton, brings improvisational energy and soulful originals to stages such as Aretha’s Jazz Café in Detroit.
She is also a member of Trillium Groove, an indie-pop trio formed with Ruby Bardenhagen and Keagan Kalbfleisch while studying Audio Technology at NMC. Known for their harmonies and heartfelt songwriting, the group performs widely across Northern Michigan and has released original music and videos that showcase their evolution as a collaborative project.
SkyeLea recently joined The Wildflowers, a folk- and country-influenced trio with Agnes Su and Audrey Mason. Together, they perform genre-blending originals and traditional covers at events such as Wheatland Music Festival and The Alluvion. She continues to collaborate with regional groups, including East Bay Drive and Funky Uncle, demonstrating her ability to move fluidly across styles and performance settings.
Dance and choreography remain central to SkyeLea’s artistic identity. She grew up dancing at her grandparents’ studio, where she first discovered her love for movement and community. Today, she teaches annual workshops and assists with summer Dance Intensives at Interlochen Arts Academy, sharing hip-hop technique, culture, and creative process with young dancers. She has choreographed competitive solo and group pieces for Fitch Dance Company and Design Dance Company and has performed with ALIGN, an advanced adult contemporary group.
Her dance work also extends beyond Michigan. SkyeLea is a member of The Denizens, a New York City–based hip-hop dance crew, and served as choreographer and featured dancer for Sun Songs: The Musical in NYC in March 2025. Years of multidisciplinary training, performance programs, and intensive study continue to shape her creative direction.
As a recording artist, SkyeLea has released the EPs LOVESICK and SkyeLea Dogtown Sessions, along with the singles This Is My (Christmas) Love Song and Moving Forward. Following a successful crowdfunding campaign, she is currently recording her debut full-length album in Boston at Plaid Dog Recording Studio.
Whether on stage, behind the mic, or in the studio, SkyeLea brings a grounded, collaborative spirit to every project. She is available for concerts, weddings, private events, choreography commissions, workshops, and creative collaborations. Her focus remains consistent: create with intention, honor the moment, and leave people feeling something real.
